Topic: Unlocking eBPF's Security Superpowers

Speaker: Paul Lariviere

This talk will go over the basics of BPF/eBPF and its capabilities. Learn how to leverage this technology to develop more performant security tooling, to unlock efficiencies at massive scale, gain low-level visibility, and even modify kernel level behaviours of your systems on the fly. No prior familiarity with BPF/eBPF is required. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Introduction and basics of BPF/eBPF including its history and evolution

  • Discussion and demos of existing tooling and capabilities, including specific scenarios in which eBPF can be leveraged in a security-related context

  • Caveats and Limitations of the technology

  • Examples discussing how some of the largest companies are leveraging this technology at scale

Paul Lariviere is a NextGen blockchain-enabled AI-enhanced military grade thought leader with a background in Industrial Control Systems design and development. He started transitioning to a career in InfoSec 15 years ago and spent 10 years at a consultancy specializing in embedded device testing, physical assessments and Red Teaming. Paul went on to hold the position of Technical Principal consultant and Red Team practice lead. His last two years there were spent as Director of Offensive Security R&D, working with an amazing team of consultants developing offensive tooling to augment the business' capabilities. He has since moved to a Blue Team security engineering role where he spends his time helping development teams release secure products and generally growing more and more vitriolic over the state of the InfoSec industry with aspirations to retire a full-blown curmudgeon some day.

We look forward to see you all there!
