June TASK - Introduction to Point of Sale (POS) Penetration Testing: A Real Life Scenario / Post-quantum cryptography
Wednesday 29-June-2016 // 6:00 - 9:00 PMMeeting Location: 55 John Street, TorontoRoom:308/309 (Go up escalator, door is just as you step off)
Speaker: Leopold von Niebelschuetz-GodlewskiTopic: Introduction to Point of Sale (POS) Penetration Testing: A Real Life Scenario
This talk is meant for beginner-intermediate level Information Security professionals, and will walk you though a real life Point of Sale (PoS) penetration test. It will cover understanding basic PoS PCI requirements as well as introduce the methodology, tips/tricks, roadblocks (or lack of), and techniques required to carry out a PoS penetration test. Most importantly, this talk will outline how to think like an attacker, understanding that the main goal is to vertically escalate privileges within the local machine and rest of the network.
Speaker: Jennifer FernickTopic 2: Post-quantum cryptography
Almost everything that has been – or will ever be – sent over a network using our current public-key cryptographic algorithms is vulnerable to adversarial capture and later decryption. In this talk, we explore how large-scale quantum computers could be used to undermine popular cryptosystems like RSA and elliptic curve cryptography, and will review the emerging cryptographic algorithms that may come to replace them. In particular, this talk presents the big picture of designing quantum-resistant information infrastructures for security practitioners. Knowledge of quantum physics is definitely not required, but topics like privacy, cryptographic agility, and ciphersuite negotiation are completely fair-game.Jennifer Fernick is a cryptography & security researcher at the Institute for Quantum Computing and the Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research at the University of Waterloo. She is also employed in the private sector.Meeting Location: 55 john Street, Toronto. Room 308/309
