Tonight’s Theme: Understanding the Hostile Cyber EnvironmentTalk 1: The Verizon Data Breach Incident Report Paul Wilson, VerizonThe Verizon Data Breach Incident Report (DBIR) is widely recognized in the Security Industry, but some people remain unfamiliar with it. The 2012 edition was released in late March, and is available as a free, no obligation download ( http://www.verizonbusiness.com/about/events/2012dbir/index.xml ). But who wants to read 80 pages of security analysis? Paul Wilson will provide some highlights from the document, interpret some of the statistics, provide unique insights on what the findings really mean, and answer any of your questions.Paul Wilson has worked in the data and telecommunications industry since graduating in 1985 from Centennial College as an Electrical Technologist. Since then he's worked variously as an onsite Service Technician, Technical Trainer, and Business Development Manager before moving to the dark side and becoming a Sales Engineer. He now works at Verizon Canada, helping customers buy their Security portfolio.
Talk 2: Attacks Against the Canadian Financial Industry Rene Hamel, TD BankUsing a case-based approach, Rene will review recent attacks against the Canadian financial industry, identifying the attacks, how they were conducted, and (hopefully) how they were successfully stopped!Rene is one of Canada’s leading data forensic investigators, and his career builds on more than 20 years of unique experience. Prior to joining TD Bank, René held various strategic positions including director, computer forensics at KPMG Ireland , associate director at Navigant Consulting , vice-president of computer forensic services at Inkster Group, and vice-president, computer forensics and investigations at KPMG Canada. René spent 16 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police primarily in British Columbia. His last four years were focused on investigating white-collar crimes and technological crimes with their Vancouver Commercial Crime Section. René currently holds CISSP, CISA, EnCE and PMP certifications.Source: task
